Digital Transition & Other Stuff

Hmmm. That title almost reminds me of labor and childbirth.

Seems weird that the transition to digital television, which may or may not be taking place in any locale in the US is taking place on a Tuesday night? Can't they figure out a strategy like the change to and from Daylight Savings Time? At any rate, our little town is making that transition tonight. Actually, Charter Cable made that transition way back in October and NOW congress decides to put it off to June. Jerks. In the same breath as spending a trillion dollars we don't have! Bigger Jerks.

I feel like I hit the jackpot, blogs - sort of -from both daughters within a 24 hour period.

DH and I had an enjoyable dinner out for my birthday my er cough-seventh. In three years I'll be er cough-ty. I still find it hard to believe I'm not 28 anymore. Sigh.

Two Fingers Please!

I just found out that I come by my love of Jack Daniels naturally. Really. In pursuing my avocation of genealogy, I found that the husband of a distant relative, one George Garvin Brown, was at one time President of Brown-Forman. If the name doesn't sound familiar, think Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Southern Comfort and Jack Daniels among others.

I'm trying to figure out how to parlay that into booze for life!

Long Time Ago, In a Galaxy ...

DH and I have gotten hooked on the final season of Battlestar Galactica. Just one of the many great programs we have rediscovered on the Sci-Fi channel. In our much younger days we watched the original series. It's come a long way from Richard Hatch and Lorne Green and Dirk Benedict. But it is so confusing with Cylons that have taken human form. DH has gotten so into the program that he went out and bought the first season, which includes the miniseries that re-introduced the series. It's amazing what 20 years and great visual effects have done for the program.

The other program we were reintroduced to was Doctor Who. We started watching that one during the Peter Davison years, bought some of the specials and taped some off PBS and CBC (that's Canadian Broadcasting Corp. for you non-Canadians and non-Michiganders.) The current Doctor - Barty Crouch, Jr from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - has to be one of the best Doctors ever. In an interesting twist, there was a reunion with Doctor Who and one of his former assistants in the second season - Sarah Jane Smith. She originally appeared with Doctor Who in his third and fourth regenerations. Doctor Who had his own regular adversaries in Daleks (little mean, R2D2s) and Cybermen.

So it is that Doctor Who routinely entertains me even with the Daleks and Cybermen, but Galactica scares me.
