I have been reading Patricia Cornwell books for years. Sometimes they would remind me of my days as a Pathology secretary, even though I did not work for a county morgue. I did transcribe autopsies though for one of the doctors who was the medical examiner for a county in the mid-upper lower peninsula of Michigan. But even his "patients" were no match for the horror of Patricia Cornwell books.
Over the last few years, even though I still read/listened to them, I was becoming less of a fan. Mainly, I think because of the turns her characters were taking. And, quite frankly, you get tired of the paranoia.
As I listened to the last one,
Port Mortuary, I kept asking myself "Why are you still listening to this?" I am finding it difficult to like any of the characters at all. Finally, this book introduced a new one - Sock - a retired racing greyhound. Hopefully, he will insert some warmth into Kay Scarpetta's cold life.
