Diary of a New Knee: The First Day

On June 21st, I had my right knee totally replaced due to severe arthritis. Now that I am home and going through therapy, I am ready to talk a little bit about it.

Our hospital has a system whereby the patient can receive emails. What a blessing for me, but a curse for the hospital! Before I had even had surgery I had received several emails, mostly extolling the awesomeness of my kids.

Or this one from younger daughter: "Dear Momma - good luck. I know it will go fine and you can just relax and enjoy pain killers and you'll be back on your feet in no time! (But really, if there are any hot doctors, you really need to set me up with them. I think that would be a super plan.) See you tomorrow, love you so much!!"

The first email, however, came from my former boss, Toni!

This was great as it kept my spirits up. I was told to be there at 9:30 am, I was the fourth one on the schedule, got moved to 3rd due to a cancellation and then back to 4th due to an emergency. So, it was after 1 pm before I went into surgery.

The doctors autograph on my right knee!
